Yes, visitors can enter a pickleball tournament in Vietnam, and you do not need to be a pro. The big PPA Tour Asia stops in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City run amateur brackets by age and skill, and foreigners register online like anyone else. The catch is timing: sign-up windows are short, and 2027 dates are not out yet.
The short answer
Who can enter: Anyone. At the PPA Tour Asia stops, amateur divisions are split by age (U18, 19+, 35+ and 50+) and by skill (3.5 and above, or below 3.5).
What it costs: The 2026 listing I checked shows a PickleballBrackets service fee of $5 per event, capped at $10. Read each event page for any separate entry fee.
When to book: Sign-up opened roughly 5 to 9 weeks before play at the events I checked. The two with published deadlines closed 13 to 16 days before the first day, or sooner when full.
What to bring: A DUPR rating if you have one, a partner for doubles, and a paddle on the USAP approved list.
Which pickleball tournaments in Vietnam can visitors enter?
Two PPA Tour Asia stops, one in Hanoi and one in Ho Chi Minh City, are the easiest for visitors. Both ran in 2026 with amateur brackets beside the pro draw, and both cities are simple to reach and to add to a trip. Smaller club events run all year, but they are harder to find from abroad.
| Event | When and where | What visitors should know |
|---|---|---|
| MB Hanoi Cup (PPA Tour Asia) | 1 to 5 April 2026, My Dinh Indoor Athletics Arena, Hanoi (over 3,000 seats) | The tour's first visit to northern Vietnam. Amateur play ran Thursday to Sunday, 2 to 5 April. |
| MB Ho Chi Minh City Open (PPA Asia 500) | 6 to 9 August 2026, New Sports Club, City Park, The Global City | US$70,000 in pro prize money. Amateur sign-up ran 26 June to 24 July. |
| MB Vietnam Open, 2025 edition | 4 to 7 September 2025, Ho Chi Minh City | Useful as a guide to the pattern: sign-up ran 29 July to 19 August. |
| MB Vietnam Cup, Da Nang | Held in late September or early October in the past, at Tien Son Sports Arena and Tuyen Son Sports Complex | 566 players over five days in 2025, according to Pickleball Vietnam. I could not confirm a 2026 edition. |
| Vietnam Pickleball Open Cup | Regional stages, including a Saigon stage at The Dinker Club, District 7 | Team format, with teams of 4 to 10 players. Not a fit for solo travelers. |
| Local DUPR events | Club events across the country, most weeks | Facolos Champion in January 2025 drew over 300 players and was the first fully DUPR-integrated event in Vietnam. |
If this is your first tournament here, I would pick the Hanoi or Saigon stop. Both cities have plenty of courts for practice and easy flights in. I would not build a whole trip around an event that has no published date yet.
When is the next one, and what about 2027?
As of 19 October 2026, I could not find published 2027 dates for any Vietnam stop. The 2026 pattern was Hanoi in April and Ho Chi Minh City in August. Dates can shift, and the tour announces stops a few at a time, so treat any "usual month" as a guess, not a plan.
What you can plan around is the sign-up window. It is short, and amateur places can fill before the deadline.
| Event | First day of play | Sign-up opened | Sign-up closed |
|---|---|---|---|
| MB Hanoi Cup 2026 | 1 April | 30 January, per the tour announcement | Not published on the pages I read |
| MB Ho Chi Minh City Open 2026 | 6 August | 26 June | 24 July, 12:00 noon Vietnam time, or when full |
| MB Vietnam Open 2025 | 4 September | 29 July | 19 August, 12:00 noon Vietnam time, or when full |
What divisions can an amateur enter?
Amateurs choose an age group, a skill level and an event type. At the 2025 and 2026 PPA Tour Asia stops in Ho Chi Minh City, the age groups were U18, 19+, 35+ and 50+. Skill was split at 3.5, so you enter either "3.5 and above" or "below 3.5". Events are men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.
Not every age group plays every event. At the 2025 event, mixed doubles ran on day one, singles for most age groups on days two and three, and gendered doubles on days three and four. The organizers publish the schedule, so check which day your division plays before you book flights.
Two rules catch visitors out. First, you cannot play more than one event on the same day, and entries that clash are removed. Second, if you are moved up a division, you can be withdrawn from your other divisions automatically. Both come from the event pages and from Pickleball Vietnam's tournament guide, so read the rules on the page you register on.
For format, the 2025 event used round robin and elimination brackets played to 11, win by 2, with gold medal matches to 15. I could not confirm that the same format applied in 2026.
How do I register, and what does it cost?
You register online through PickleballBrackets, and the listing I checked shows a service fee of $5 per event, capped at $10. That is the fee shown on the page. It does not list a separate entry fee, so confirm the total before you pay. There is a strict no-refund policy.
- Find the event page on pickleballtournaments.com or the PPA Tour Asia site and read the divisions and dates.
- Pick your age group, your skill level and your events. Do not stack two events on one day.
- Register and pay for yourself. In doubles, your partner has to register and pay as well.
- No partner yet? Pickleball Vietnam says the waitlist system can help you find one.
- Keep your confirmation. There are no refunds, so be sure of your dates first.
If you get stuck, note that the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City page offered sign-up help by email or Zalo call, aimed at Vietnamese-speaking players. Ask a local friend or your guide to help, or message me on WhatsApp.
Do I need a DUPR rating to enter?
Bring one if you have it. DUPR is the rating system most organizers now lean on. Vietnam's first fully DUPR-integrated event, Facolos Champion, ran on 19 January 2025 with over 300 players, according to DUPR. Pickleball Vietnam says some events accept a credible self-rating instead.
Pickleball Vietnam also reports that local Vietnamese ratings run about one point below DUPR. I cannot verify that figure, but the warning is useful: do not assume that a 3.5 at home matches a 3.5 on a Vietnamese court. My advice is simple. Enter at your honest level. A lower division wins you a medal you will not enjoy, and it wastes the other players' time.
What paddle do I need?
Amateurs can use a paddle that is UPA-A certified or on the USAP approved list. Pros have a stricter rule, with paddles tested at the venue the day before their first match. Look your model up on the approved list before you fly, because it is far easier to swap a paddle at home than in Hanoi.
Paddles can travel in carry-on or checked luggage on domestic flights in Vietnam, and the full rules for long-haul flights are in my guide to flying with a paddle in Vietnam.
Want a trip built around a tournament?
Send us your dates and your level. We can arrange a private trip with a hotel near the venue, airport pickups, practice sessions before you play and sightseeing for the days after. You register for the event yourself.
Plan a private trip See Da Nang and Hoi AnHow should I plan a trip around a tournament?
Arrive three or four days before your first match and leave the day after your last possible one. That small buffer fixes most of what goes wrong for visitors, from jet lag to a delayed draw. The rest is about location, heat and keeping your legs fresh.
Stay near the venue
The Hanoi Cup venue, My Dinh Indoor Athletics Arena, is in Nam Tu Liem, well west of the Old Quarter, and the Saigon venue, The Global City, is in the east of the city. Both mean a longer ride than most visitors expect. Book a hotel close to the venue for match days and use Green SM (formerly Xanh SM) to get there. My Green SM guide explains how it works.
Practice on local courts first
Use the first days to adjust to heat, humidity and the local balls. Both cities have plenty of courts that welcome visitors. See the guides for pickleball in Hanoi and pickleball in Ho Chi Minh City, and plan your sessions for early morning or late afternoon rather than midday.
Do not overbook your events
One event a day is the rule, and I would treat it as a limit on what your body can do as well. Two long days of doubles are enough for most players over 50. If you can, keep to doubles, and add a singles event only if you are fit. At the 2025 event, all the mixed doubles were played on the first day.
Save the sightseeing for after
Matches take your legs, and Hanoi's Old Quarter and Hoi An's lanes are best with fresh ones. Plan the tourist days after your last match, and book a massage. My guide to recovery and massage in Vietnam covers what to expect.
What about the Pickleball World Cup in Da Nang?
The 2026 World Cup was mainly a national team event, so visitors could not simply sign up. It ran from 30 August to 6 September 2026 in Da Nang. A hotel guide to the event says it had national team categories, plus more than 150 individual events by age and DUPR level. Entry to the team events ran through national federations. For example, Pickleball Australia took nominations from players with an active DUPR account and a valid passport.
I could not confirm a public sign-up route for the individual events, so do not plan on the same format returning. For background on the event and why the sport is growing so quickly here, read Vietnam's pickleball boom.
Frequently asked questions
Can foreigners play in pickleball tournaments in Vietnam?
Yes. Amateur divisions at the PPA Tour Asia stops accept international entries, and you register online like any local player. Divisions are split by age and skill rating, so you play against people of a similar level. Pro brackets are separate and need a professional ranking.
How much does it cost to enter a pickleball tournament in Vietnam?
The 2026 Ho Chi Minh City Open listing shows a PickleballBrackets service fee of $5 per event, capped at $10, with a strict no-refund policy. The listing does not show a separate entry fee, so read each event page before you pay. Your partner registers and pays separately.
Do I need a DUPR rating to enter?
Bring one if you have it. Vietnam's first fully DUPR-integrated event ran in January 2025, and organizers increasingly use ratings to place players. Some events accept a credible self-rating instead. Enter at your honest level, because moving up a division later can withdraw you from your other events.
When is the next pickleball tournament in Vietnam?
I could not find published 2027 dates for any Vietnam stop as of 19 October 2026. In 2026 the PPA Tour Asia came to Hanoi in April and Ho Chi Minh City in August. Watch the PPA Tour Asia site and pickleballtournaments.com, and do not buy flights until dates are confirmed.
Can I use my own paddle at a Vietnam tournament?
Yes, if it is approved. Amateur events accept UPA-A certified or USAP approved paddles, and the USAP model must appear on its approved list. Check your paddle before you fly. Paddles can travel in carry-on or checked luggage on domestic flights in Vietnam.
The bottom line
Entering a tournament in Vietnam is easier than most visitors think, and the Hanoi and Saigon stops are the place to start. Register early, enter at your honest rating and give yourself a few days on court before your first match. Then wait for the 2027 dates before you buy anything.
