Singapore to Vietnam for pickleball: courts, flights and costs in SGD

By Kevin · Published 28 October 2026 · 10 min read

If you play in Singapore, you know the routine: off-peak ActiveSG slots open 12 days ahead at noon and go in minutes, and peak slots are balloted. In Vietnam, two to three hours from Changi, courts are everywhere and early-morning slots are often free the same day. Courts are not always cheaper than ActiveSG, but they are much easier to get, and there are local players waiting to play you. Here's how the two compare, with prices in Singapore dollars.

The short version

Courts: Vietnam's basic courts cost about S$7.50 an hour, good courts at peak about S$22 to S$35. ActiveSG is as cheap; private Singapore courts cost more.

Booking: no ballot. Phone or Zalo, often for the same day. Early mornings are easiest.

Flights: about 2h15 to Saigon, 2h45 to Da Nang, 3h25 to Hanoi. Vietnam is one hour behind.

Visa: none for Singapore citizens, up to 30 days.

Weekend budget: about S$600 to S$1,100 per person for three nights, flights included.

Why are Singapore players flying to Vietnam to play?

Because courts in Singapore are hard to get, not because they are expensive. ActiveSG's off-peak slots open 12 days ahead at 12pm on a first-come basis, and peak slots go by ballot on the MyActiveSG+ app. One report put ActiveSG pickleball bookings at close to 8,000 a month, up from under 20. New courts keep opening, such as the eight sheltered courts at Little India Bus Terminal in March 2026, but demand keeps up.

Vietnam is at the other end of the scale. Pickleball arrived in 2023 and spread to every city; clubs with ten courts or more are normal, and local groups play from 5:30am. Our post on Vietnam's pickleball boom explains how it happened. For a Singapore player, that means a weekend of as many games as your legs allow, with new opponents every session.

Is pickleball cheaper in Vietnam than in Singapore?

Not compared with ActiveSG, but yes compared with Singapore's private and air-conditioned courts. In October 2026, one Singapore dollar bought about 20,200 dong.

Split four ways, a session in Vietnam costs about S$2 to S$9 each. Covered and indoor courts cost more than open-air ones, and resort courts more again. How do you book a court in Vietnam?

Most clubs take bookings by phone or on Zalo, Vietnam's main messaging app, and many big venues now list slots on booking apps. There is no ballot.

Our court guides list clubs by city: Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hoi An and Hanoi.

How do you get a game with local players?

Turn up early, ask politely, and offer to share the court fee. Most groups will rotate you in. Vietnamese players usually book a court as a group for an hour or two rather than running open queues, so the trick is to find a group with a spare spot. Smile, say "Cho mình chơi cùng được không?" ("Can I join you?"), and you'll usually get a game, often followed by an invitation to coffee.

The standard is high in the big cities, with many fast, young players, but every club has mixed levels. Our guide to getting a game in Vietnam covers the etiquette. In Hanoi, the easiest start is a morning playing with locals: two hours of doubles with Hanoi players matched to your level, then egg coffee. Want something competitive? The bottom line
