Vietnam in June 2027: weather, rain and where to go

By Kevin · Published · 10 min read

June is a good month for Vietnam if you go where the weather is: the central coast. Da Nang, Hoi An, Quy Nhon and Nha Trang are dry and sunny, while Hanoi hits its hottest weeks and Saigon and Phu Quoc are in the rainy season. Here is the weather region by region, June or July, the dates that matter in 2027, and a route built around the beaches.

The short version

Best region: the central coast. Da Nang 26 to 34°C, about 83 mm of rain in the whole month, sea warm and flat.

North: Hanoi 27 to 35°C and humid, with evening thunderstorms. Sapa mild and wet, terraces green.

South: Saigon 26 to 34°C, rainy season, storms mostly in the afternoon. Phu Quoc is at its wettest.

Dates: Doan Ngo festival Wednesday 9 June. Hoi An's lantern night Friday 18 June. No public holidays in June.

Crowds: Vietnamese school holidays start in June, so beach towns fill up at weekends. Cities and the north are quiet.

Is June a good time to visit Vietnam?

Yes, as long as the central coast is the heart of the trip. June is one of the driest, sunniest months in Da Nang, Hoi An, Quy Nhon and Nha Trang, and a cheap, quiet month for Hanoi and Saigon if you can handle heat and short storms.

The honest downside is heat. June is Hanoi's hottest month, with average highs near 35°C and nights that stay around 27°C. Saigon is a little cooler but rains most afternoons. Neither is a reason to skip them, but keep them short and do everything early. If you'd rather have the north and south comfortable too, April is the better month, and May is the closest match with a little less heat.

What is the weather like in Vietnam in June?

Hot everywhere at sea level, with the rain split by region: wet in the north and south, dry on the central coast. Expect highs of 33 to 35°C in Hanoi, Da Nang and Saigon, and 17 to 23°C in the mountains around Sapa and Da Lat.

Hanoi, Da Nang, Saigon and Phu Quoc figures are long-term June averages from the Vietnam Institute for Building Science and Technology climate tables; the others are rounded averages. Heat waves can push Hanoi and Hue to 38 to 40°C for a few days.

Is June a good month for Da Nang, Hoi An and Nha Trang?

Yes, it's one of their best months. The central coast is in the middle of its dry season, with long sunny days, flat sea and, in Da Nang, only about 83 mm of rain across the whole month.

Give the coast most of your nights. Swim at My Khe or An Bang before 8am, take the hot middle of the day slowly, and walk Hoi An's old town after dark. Hue is a day trip or one night: very hot, but dry. Read Hoi An or Da Nang to pick a base and things to do in Hoi An to fill the days. Further south, Quy Nhon and Nha Trang have clear water and calm island trips; see the Nha Trang travel guide.

The one thing that changes in June is the crowd. The Vietnamese school year ends by 31 May under the education ministry's national calendar, and families head to the beach. Weekdays are fine; Friday to Sunday, Da Nang and Nha Trang hotels fill and prices rise. Book the beach part early, and if you're travelling with kids yourself, this is the season Vietnamese families do the same.

Da Nang's international fireworks festival (DIFF) ran from 30 May to 11 July in 2026, with shows over the Han River on set weekend nights. The 2027 dates and teams hadn't been announced as of November 2026. If your dates are fixed, check the official DIFF site before you book: show nights sell out riverside hotels and grandstand seats.

What is the weather like in Hanoi and the north in June?

Hot, humid and stormy. June is Hanoi's hottest month, averaging 27 to 35°C with about 264 mm of rain over 15 days, mostly as evening thunderstorms. Ha Long Bay is warm for swimming, and the mountains are green and wet.

Live Hanoi the way locals do in summer: out at dawn around Hoan Kiem Lake, indoors from late morning to 4pm, back out when the streets cool. Two days is enough. A night on Ha Long Bay is the cool break, with swimming off the boat and kayaking; our cruise guide compares the boats, and Hanoi to Ha Long Bay covers the transfer. Storms at sea can cancel cruises for a day, so keep a spare day before your flight south.

Sapa is green and about 10°C cooler than Hanoi, but June is wet: cloud on Fansipan, muddy trails, a dry morning more often than a dry day. The flooded terraces around Mu Cang Chai usually last into early June before the rice grows. Things to do in Sapa has the treks, and Sapa or Da Lat helps if you want one cool mountain stop.

June is also lychee month. The main crop from Luc Ngan in Bac Ninh province (formerly Bac Giang) is picked through June and July, and Hanoi's street sellers pile it on bicycles.

Does it rain in Saigon and the south in June?

Yes. June is the rainy season in Ho Chi Minh City, with about 224 mm over 16 days on average. Most of it falls as one heavy storm in the afternoon or early evening, so mornings are usually dry and clear.

Plan the city, the Cu Chi tunnels and markets for the morning, rest after lunch, and carry a poncho. The Mekong Delta is green and full of fruit, rambutan, mangosteen and durian; our Mekong Delta guide explains how to go.

Phu Quoc is the place to skip in June for a beach holiday. It's the island's wettest stretch, about 382 mm over 21 days, and the southwest monsoon makes the west-coast sea rough. Resorts are cheap and the east coast can be calmer, but Nha Trang or Quy Nhon is the safer beach. Things to do in Phu Quoc covers the best months to go instead.

Is June or July better for Vietnam?

They're close. Both are dry on the central coast and hot and wet in the north and south. June has slightly fewer domestic crowds than July, which is the peak of the Vietnamese school holidays, so June is the better pick if you have the choice.

What festivals and dates are in Vietnam in June 2027?

June has no public holidays in Vietnam. The dates to know in 2027 are Doan Ngo on Wednesday 9 June, Hoi An's lantern night on Friday 18 June, and the start of the domestic summer travel season.

Is Vietnam crowded or expensive in June?

It depends where. Hanoi, Saigon and the north are in low season for foreign visitors, with lower hotel rates. Beach towns on the central coast get busy and pricier at weekends, because June is when Vietnamese families take their summer holidays.

The best value is a midweek beach stay and city hotels any day. Flights between Hanoi, Da Nang and Saigon are fuller than in May, so book the domestic legs a few weeks ahead. For typical costs, see what a trip to Vietnam costs.

Where can you play pickleball in Vietnam in June?

Play at sunrise outdoors or under a roof later. In June the outdoor courts are good from about 5:30 to 7:30am; after that, covered and indoor courts in Hanoi, Da Nang and Saigon are the comfortable choice, and evenings under lights work once the storms pass.

Da Nang is the easy one: a dry month, beach courts at dawn, then into the sea. See pickleball in Da Nang and pickleball in Hoi An. In Hanoi the city plays in the evening and in covered halls; pickleball in Hanoi has the list, or join our morning session with Hanoi players, from $49 per person. Saigon's covered courts are in pickleball in Ho Chi Minh City.
