November is one of the best months to visit Vietnam, if you pick the right regions. The north is cool, dry and golden. The south is sliding into its dry season. And the centre is at the peak of its rains, which in 2025 meant record floods in Hue and Hoi An. Here's what November 2026 really looks like, region by region, plus the changes in Hanoi this year that most travel guides haven't caught up with yet.
The short version
Go north: Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh and Sapa are at their best, around 19 to 25°C and mostly dry.
Go south: Saigon and the Mekong Delta are drying out, and Phu Quoc's beach season starts to settle in towards the end of the month.
Be careful in the centre: Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An are in their wettest weeks, and floods are a real risk. Book flexibly.
New in Hanoi for 2026: petrol motorbikes are banned from 11 Old Quarter streets on Friday evenings and all day at weekends, and petrol GrabBikes can't use those streets at all. Air quality starts to slip in late November.
Pickleball: November is prime outdoor season in Hanoi, with cool, dry mornings. In Da Nang, book indoor courts.
November at a glance, region by region
Vietnam is long and thin, so November gives you three completely different climates at once:
- North (Hanoi, Ha Long, Ninh Binh, Sapa): dry and comfortable. Days around 25°C, nights around 19°C in Hanoi, and cooler in the mountains. The best month of the year for many people.
- Centre (Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An): the heaviest rain of the year. Warm, around 28°C, but wet, with typhoon and flood risk.
- South (Saigon, Mekong Delta): the rains fade through the month. Days of 30 to 32°C and more sun each week.
- Islands (Phu Quoc): the dry season is arriving. The first half of the month can still bring showers and choppy seas, and the second half is usually better.

Hanoi in November 2026: what's changed this year
Hanoi is changing faster than any other city in Vietnam, so a guide from even two years ago can be out of date. Three things matter for a November 2026 trip.
Weekend motorbike restrictions in the Old Quarter
Since 1 July 2026, Hanoi has been piloting a low-emission zone in the heart of the Old Quarter. On 11 streets, including Hang Dao, Hang Ngang, Hang Buom, Ma May, Hang Bac, Trang Tien and the streets along Hoan Kiem Lake, petrol motorbikes are banned from 6pm to midnight on Fridays and from 6am to midnight on Saturdays and Sundays. Electric motorbikes are allowed. The first phase runs to the end of 2026, and the city plans to widen the zone from 2027.
For you, that means the old streets are noticeably quieter and easier to walk at weekends, and weekend evenings around the lake feel more relaxed than they used to.
GrabBike pick-ups have moved
During the pilot, petrol ride-hailing motorbikes are banned from those 11 streets all week, not just at weekends. If you book a GrabBike from your Old Quarter hotel, you may have to walk to the nearest street outside the zone. Grab cars and electric options like Xanh SM still come to the door.
Air quality starts to slip
This is the honest part. Hanoi's air gets worse as the weather cools, because cold, still air traps traffic and construction dust near the ground. Early November is usually fine. From late November it can turn bad: on 7 December 2025, Hanoi briefly ranked as the most polluted city in the world, with an AQI above 230. Check the IQAir app each morning. On bad days, play indoors, wear a KN95 mask outside, and choose a hotel with an air purifier. If you're sensitive to pollution, put Hanoi at the start of a November trip rather than the end.
What's good about Hanoi in November
Leave the air aside and November is Hanoi at its loveliest. The heat and humidity of summer are gone, the light is soft, and the whole city seems to be outside.
- Autumn flowers: in late November, vendors cycle through the streets with baskets of white daisies (cuc hoa mi), and people stop to photograph them. It only lasts a few weeks.
- The Hanoi Marathon, Sunday 8 November 2026: the Standard Chartered Hanoi Marathon Heritage Race loops past Hoan Kiem Lake, the Old Quarter and West Lake. Great to watch, but roads around the centre close early that morning, so plan any airport run around it.
- The weekend walking street: the roads around Hoan Kiem Lake close to traffic from Friday evening to Sunday night, with street performers and families out late.
- Day trips: November is a lovely month for Ninh Binh and an overnight cruise on Ha Long Bay, with calm seas and clear views. Our 7-day northern itinerary fits November perfectly.
Ha Giang and Sapa: the mountains at their best
November is the peak of the buckwheat flower season in Ha Giang, when the hillsides turn pink and white. The province usually holds a buckwheat flower festival during the month, and dates are announced in the autumn. In Sapa, the rice harvest is finished, the trails are drier than at any time since spring, and the air is cool and clear. Nights in the mountains drop to around 10°C, so bring a proper jacket.
One rule to know before you go: to ride a motorbike yourself you need a valid licence, and police checks on foreign riders have tightened in 2026. In May 2026, the authorities in Nha Trang and Mui Ne began requiring rental shops to check an international driving permit plus a home licence before handing over a bike. Central Vietnam: the honest warning
October and November are the wettest months of the year on the central coast, and 2025 showed how serious it can get. In late October 2025, Hue recorded more than a metre of rain in 24 hours, a Vietnamese record. The water in Hoi An's old town reached waist height, around 40,000 tourists were moved between hotels, and the north-south railway was cut. A second round of floods followed in mid-November, further south. Not every year is like that, but November is when it happens.
If Hoi An or Hue is a must on your trip:
- Keep your plans flexible. Book refundable hotels and keep a day or two spare.
- Stay in Da Nang rather than Hoi An's old town. The riverside old town is the first place to flood, and Da Nang's hotels and roads cope better.
- Watch the forecast in the week before you travel, and have travel insurance that covers weather disruption.
- The full moon lantern night in Hoi An falls on Sunday 22 November 2026. It's beautiful if the weather holds, but don't build a trip around it.

The south: Saigon, the Mekong and Phu Quoc
The south is on the up in November. In Saigon, the afternoon downpours become rarer through the month, and by the end it's mostly dry, hot and bright. The Mekong Delta is still full after the rains, which is good news: the water is high enough for boats to reach the narrow channels and orchards, and the landscape is at its greenest.
On Phu Quoc, the dry season is arriving. The first half of November can still bring showers and rough water on the west coast, so if the beach is the point of your trip, aim for late November or December.
Da Lat: the wild sunflower month
Up in the highlands, November is wild sunflower season in Da Lat, when the roadsides and hills turn yellow. Days are cool, around 16 to 23°C, and the rain is easing off. See our Da Lat guide.
Playing pickleball in November
- Hanoi: the best outdoor month of the year, with dry, cool mornings. The one caveat is air quality in late November, so check the AQI and switch to an indoor court on bad days. See where to play pickleball in Hanoi.
- Da Nang: expect rain. Book indoor or covered courts, or stay at a resort with roofed courts. Our list of resorts with pickleball courts shows which ones.
- Saigon: mornings are warm but increasingly dry, which makes early outdoor games easy by late November.
A sensible November route
The smart November trip goes north, then flies south, and keeps the centre short or skips it:
- Hanoi, 3 nights: start here, before the air gets worse.
- Ha Long Bay, 1 night: overnight cruise.
- Ninh Binh or Sapa, 2 nights.
- Saigon, 3 nights: fly south. The city and a Mekong day.
- Phu Quoc, 3 to 4 nights: end on the beach in late November.

Vietnam in November 2026 is excellent in the north and the south, and a gamble in the centre. Start in Hanoi while the air is clean and the weather is perfect, and enjoy the calmer weekend Old Quarter.
